GENerazione PrevenZione is a project for schools in Turin and the surrounding metropolitan area. It was created through the collaboration between Fondazione Piemontese per la Ricerca sul Cancro ETS e Istituto di Candiolo – IRCCSFondazione la Stampa – Specchio dei tempi ETS, and Fondazione Agnelli, in partnership with the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri. Together, they contribute medical, scientific, educational, legal and organisational expertise to develop a structured and participatory programme.

Following a pilot edition held in spring 2025 at three schools — Avogadro, Cottini and Umberto I — the project is expanding in the 2025/26 school year to include classes at Liceo Alfieri and Liceo Volta in Turin, IIS Curie-Vittorini in Grugliasco, and the private agricultural technical institute of the Salesian Schools in Lombriasco.

The programme includes a series of two-hour workshops held during school hours. The first workshop provides an introduction to cancer prevention, while the second explores specific oncological diseases in greater depth. Both sessions are led by doctors and researchers from the Candiolo Cancer Institute. These are followed by an informational meeting with the Carabinieri focusing on the risks associated with smoking, alcohol, drugs and irresponsible driving.

In spring, the project moves beyond the classroom with a public awareness campaign carried out in city squares using the SpecchioBus, together with the Carabinieri and Specchio dei tempi. The initiative involves students who are over 18 in symbolic locations of Turin’s nightlife scene. On board the mobile unit operated by Fondazione La Stampa – Specchio dei tempi, a medical professional raises awareness about responsible driving behaviour.

The students themselves then take on an active role, sharing information about risks and prevention with their peers, in line with the peer education approach.
